Haverford Homes is a Home Building Company located in the Metropolitan Washington DC area. Our goal since our inception in 1993 has been to treat everyone with respect and honesty and to strive for the very best in customer service. Keeping this fact in perspective, the following is “A Holiday Story That Must Be Told.”
Jack Lightner, Production Supervisor for many years with Haverford, received a desperate phone call on Christmas Eve afternoon from a property owner at the St. James community requesting an emergency repair. It was explained that multiple holiday guests were scheduled to arrive within the hour and repairs needed to be made.
Hearing the tone of the plea, Jack left his family and drove to the development site, a distance of 45 minutes from his home.
Upon his arrival, multiple cars were already parked in the driveway. He knocked at the door and was greeted by the property owner with a “thank you for coming” look in his eye. Jack was then escorted into the large kitchen family room, which to his surprise was occupied with 18 couples representing present property owners and residents at St. James. In unison they shouted “Merry Christmas” and held up their personal Christmas cards, each carrying Jack’s name. The remaining Property Owners at St. James confirmed they also would have been present for this appreciation gathering but had already left town for the holidays.
Jack was called to the residence under the pretense of a major problem only to be informed that it was Jack the homeowners wanted to see and personally thank for all he had done in delivering their homes on time. They proceeded to express their appreciation for his professional attitude and genuine caring as their warranty work and inspections were scheduled, implemented, and successfully completed. This was further evidenced with his emergency response to their request this day.
As expressed by these 18 families, “Haverford Homes for them is singularly….. Jack Lightner……….”
This is the same Jack Lightner who takes the time to be at Piscataway Landing each and every Saturday and Sunday to provide his construction expertise and enthusiastic site tours for prospective buyers for this new Haverford community. Piscataway will be successful as a direct result of Jack’s commitment to excellence in the product that he is delivering and in his undeniable gift of caring for other people. Haverford Homes buyers recognize this quality and immediately gravitate to associate with Jack.
Happy New Year! We are all blessed to have Jack on the Haverford TEAM……
We did some decorating over the holiday at our spec/model at Piscataway Landing.

It’s a busy city at Piscataway Landing. We are grading, sodding, installing, and digging. Even in this deep freeze our crews are working hard to put the finishing touches on these homes. Today our painters were applying some designer colors to lot 46B (seen below), and our HVAC contractor was installing thermostats. If you think this sounds exciting, just wait until we post some pictures of the competed product. Our inbox in filled with inquries right now:)
We also stopped in at lot 15C (8405 Poplar Hill Drive, Clinton MD), to check the progress on our new kitchen/sunroom design. We’ve posted before and after pictures to show the pass through into the 12×15 sunroom. We think this allows for a much more open feel. Let us know what you think. It was a good day with lots of progress.
Billionaire Warren Buffett said the U.S. will recover
from the residential real estate slump by 2011 as
demand for houses catches up with the supply that
accumulated during the bubble.
“Within a year or so, residential housing problems
should largely be behind us,” Buffett wrote Saturday
in his annual letter to the shareholders of his
Berkshire Hathaway. “Prices will remain far below
‘bubble’ levels, of course, but for every seller or
lender hurt by this there will be a buyer who
benefits. Indeed, many families that couldn’t afford
to buy an appropriate home a few years ago now
find it well within their means.”
On behalf of Jeff Cohen and Haverford Homes, we wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, and a safe Holiday Season. Our latest video update comes via Piscataway Landing.
